A modern, detailed view of the adventure
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a spectacular Himalayan journey, circling Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), the world’s eighth-highest peak. This trek takes you through remote valleys, traditional villages, dense forests, and high mountain passes, offering a perfect combination of natural beauty and cultural immersion. It is ideal for trekkers seeking adventure off the beaten path.
The trail passes through charming settlements like Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo, where Gurung and Tibetan-influenced cultures flourish. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, river gorges, glacial landscapes, and lush alpine meadows, making this a truly unforgettable journey.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered a moderate to challenging trek. Daily walks typically range from 5 to 7 hours, with some steep sections, rocky terrain, and high altitudes. The trek’s highest point is the Larkya La Pass at 5,160 m, which requires proper acclimatization and a reasonable level of physical fitness. While prior trekking experience is helpful, determined beginners with good fitness can also enjoy the journey safely.
The climb to Larkya La Pass is the highlight of the trek. At over 5,000 m, it offers breathtaking views of surrounding peaks, glaciers, and valleys. This challenging pass is both physically and mentally rewarding, providing a sense of achievement that every trekker will remember.
Villages along the trek, such as Samagaon and Samdo, allow trekkers to experience local culture firsthand. Stone-built houses, mani walls, prayer flags, and Buddhist rituals create a deep cultural connection. Engaging with locals provides insight into traditional lifestyles and Himalayan heritage.
Accommodations are mainly in tea houses and lodges, offering simple but comfortable rooms and hearty meals. Traditional Nepali dishes such as dal bhat, soups, and vegetables provide sustenance for long trekking days. The friendly hospitality makes every stop along the trail enjoyable and memorable.
The best times to trek the Manaslu Circuit are in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). These seasons provide clear skies, stable weather, and vibrant mountain views, making the trek safer and more visually spectacular.
The trek usually begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola or Arughat. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through forests, villages, and high passes before descending toward Dharapani or the Annapurna region. The complete circuit takes approximately 14–18 days, depending on the itinerary and acclimatization schedule.
With a perfect mix of culture, adventure, and stunning Himalayan scenery, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a rewarding journey for any trekking enthusiast looking for a less-traveled, authentic Himalayan experience.
Live forecast based on trek coordinates
Weather varies both by season and altitude with some areas featuring warm subtropical valleys and others cold alpine terrain. The Spring months of March to May, and Autumnal months of September to November, are best for Visually stunning mountain views and mild weather. Autumn is extremely popular due to its mild weather, and visibility of the Himalayan Peaks. Other months of the year bring weather that is much less accommodating to a trek. December through February bring winter weather and heavy snows, making High passes like Larkya La, which is 5,167 meters, very difficult to overcome. June through August the Monsoon season brings rains and humidity which often make the trek unsafe, as also do the potential landslides. Be prepared for the treks shifting weather with a focus on early starts, and better cold and wind layering, and pack for loose weather, and cold snow to ensure a successful trek.
