A modern, detailed view of the adventure
Located in the Langtang region, Gosaikunda Trek is one of the most religiously and spiritually significant treks in the country, just north of Kathmandu. It leads to the Gosaikunda Lakes, also referred to as alpine lakes, which sit at an altitude of 4,380 meters, and are surrounded by the Great Himalayan Range. Gosaikunda Lakes are known for their beauty and for the strong spirituality and religious significance the lakes hold. This high altitude trek is one of Nepal's most scenic treks.
As the trek progresses, the path passes by more and more of the traditional Tamang settlements, dense woodland, and ultimately high alpine topography. It provides stunning views of the Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and the Manaslu and Annapurna ranges. Gosaikunda Lakes also provide amazing panoramic views. This is a great trek for people looking for an incredible Nepal experience in the Himalayas while also wanting an adventure near Kathmandu in a shorter time frame.
Gosaikunda Trek is considered one of the moderate level treks in Nepal. It is suitable for the more semi-fit level trekkers, and to successfully complete the trek, the trekkers should be able to walk at least 5-7 hours a day. There are a lot of uphill and strenuous sections of the trek, particularly while it is approaching the Lauribina Pass and on the way to Gosaikunda Lakes. There are no extensive and imposed technical climbing skills that are involved, but due to the high altitude of Gosaikunda Lakes, a good amount of and proper acclimatization is also important to complete to ensure a successful trek. With suitable preparation and moderate fitness, most trekkers should be able to comfortably complete this trek.
The trek to Gosaikunda begins with a drive to either Dhunche or Sundarijal from Kathmandu. Depending on your preference the trek starts with either route. Continuing from the village of Sundarijal, the trail begins to ascend through forests and villages to Lauribina. This is where the Gosaikunda trek begins, arriving to Gosaikunda lake.
The Gosaikunda trek is a mix of natural beauty, Himalayan adventure along with spiritual significance. Of all the treks, Gosaikunda is on the higher end of the spectrum for altitude. This trek is short and offers trekkers a meaningful experience.
